Godly Math

Godly Math

Acts 2:47

47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

Acts 6:1

1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied

The days after the ascension of Jesus were quite interesting for the disciples. One can imagine the impact of seeing the Son of God in person after watching Him hang on a cross and die. One of the last commandments of Christ was instruction to the disciples to go into the whole world and preach the Gospel. In Acts 4, we see the disciples have followed his instructions. Results were soon to follow as the scripture tells us that God added to the church daily. Only a couple chapters later, we see that God has quickly moved from addition to multiplication. The number of disciples began to “multiply.” In fact, in one day alone over 5,000 were added to the church.

There are two types of math that God likes, and two types of math that he despises. God is not a fan of subtraction, and he does not like division. I would go a step further and say that God despises division, especially when people knowingly bring that attitude/spirit into the church. God wants His people and His church to grow, not subtract. The book of Acts is clear that God is about moving forward, not backwards.  God’s intention for us all is to see us grow, to see us multiply. Nothing makes him happier than seeing his children succeed.

How will you allow God to multiply areas of your life in 2021? He is willing, he is able, and he is simply waiting on us.
