LOVE = REACH Day 32

“While your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. “

1 Kings 20:40

This verse is part of a parable.  A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning

This parable was told to King Ahab in order to teach him that His disobedience was inexcusable.

In the story we find a solider was given the job to watch a prisoner of war. The prisoner was a valuable asset. The solider was called over to watch this prisoner and told keep an eye on him. Do not let him escape. In fact, if he escapes his sentence will be inflicted upon you. Guard him with your life!

Some time elapsed and the commanding officer walked by the cell and unbelievably the prisoner was gone. He tracked down the solider and said where is the prisoner?

And to his defense with a shrug of shoulder the solider said, “While your servant was busy here and there he was gone.”

He is saying…I’ve been busy doing a lot of stuff. I was organizing the storeroom, and making sure the enemy was not coming, I was fighting a two-headed dragon. I was working. While I was working he escaped.

The lesson is productivity isn’t obedience. Being busy isn’t the same as being faithful. Multi-tasking isn’t the same as doing what you were told to do.

The commanding officer asked him to guard this one prisoner and he failed to complete the mission.

The same is true of us. We have been given one task and that was to GO and share the Good news. So often we get sidetracked doing other things that it keeps us from the one thing we should be doing.

What you are doing may be good, but it could be keeping you from the best! We can find ourselves so busy with things that miss out on what is most important: spending time with Christ and sharing Him with others.  We must be intentional (with our time and efforts) so that we are found faithful with the tasks God gives to us.
